A first-of-its-kind American Jobs Conference will take place on Twitter on July 19; Governor Tim Pawlenty will give the “Tweetnote presentation” and numerous government, technology, business, and recruiting leaders will be featured.
Many Twin Cities companies have been on the cutting edge of social media capabilities—having allowed people to tweet for charity, apply for internships via Twitter, and even participate in a social media crisis simulator.
Now, unemployed Minnesotans can participate in a jobs conference via Twitter.
On July 19, TweetMyJobs—which bills itself as “the premier social recruiting platform on Twitter”—will host a first-of-its-kind American Jobs Conference on the popular social media site.
The conference, created with the nation’s 14 million unemployed individuals in mind, will bring together leaders in government, technology, business, and recruiting to engage in real-time employment conversations with people across the United States.
The day will begin at 11 a.m. Central Time with a “tweetnote” presentation—“Getting Americans Back to Work”—by former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who is now a 2012 Republican presidential contender.
“We cannot stand idly by while millions of Americans remain unemployed,” Pawlenty said in a statement. “I’m proud to participate in TweetMyJobs’ ground-breaking American Jobs Conference to help those looking for work find it using the most cutting edge social media tools available today.”
Some other featured panels and career chats, along with a look at who is leading them, include:
• “Technology & Job Searching”: Lou Kerner, managing director of the private shares group at Wedbush securities and the first social media analyst on Wall Street
• “What Is My Personal Brand & Why Do I Need One?”: Dan Schawbel, a personal branding expert and managing partner of Millennial Branding; named by BusinessWeek as one of the top 20 people to follow on Twitter
• “Job Searching for Mid-Level/Executive Career Changes”: Jessica Miller-Merrell, owner of Xceptional HR and identified by HR Examiner as the number six online recruiting influencer
• “Tweeting Your Way To A New Job: Job Searching in 140 Characters Or Less”: Susan Whitcomb, founder and CEO of The Academies, Inc., and the award-winning author of seven books, including The Twitter Job Search Guide
Prior to the conference, those who plan to “attend” can submit questions for the leaders—and other attendees can vote on the questions they are most interested in having answered.
The hashtag for the conference will be #jobs4US—and individual hashtags will be allocated for each session. (Hashtags are used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet and can help categorize messages.) Participants who don’t have Twitter accounts can participate via an interactive online page.
TweetMyJobs provides its users with relevant job matches and allows them to control where and how they are delivered. The organization pushes jobs into Twitter through more than 10,000 job channels segmented by geography, job type, and industry.
