The units being shipped will help address the country’s natural gas shortage, according to a Bixby partner in China.
Ramsey-based Bixby Energy Systems announced Tuesday that it has received two recent orders for its patent-pending coal-to-gas "devolitization" units in China.
The first shipment will go to a methanol plant in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, to provide methane for the production of methanol. The second shipment will provide heat for up to 200,000 people in Xilinhot, a city that’s also in Inner Mongolia.
The Bixby Process, a method of converting coal into clean-burning energy, features a system called devolitization that separates coal into clean, synthetic natural gas and semi-activated carbon by superheating it in a sealed environment. The result is energy that doesn’t produce waste byproducts or heavy carbon emissions.
The units will help address China’s natural gas shortage, which produced widespread power shortages last winter, according to Jeff Wiseman, executive director and president of global operations at Global Partners United, LLC, Bixby’s strategic partner in China.
“Establishing a foothold in China is an important strategic move for Bixby, as it demonstrates the flexibility and multiple applications for the Bixby Process,” Robert Walker, chairman, CEO and president of Bixby Energy Systems, said in a statement. “Our system is helping to sustain China’s economic growth, while meeting important industrial and environmental needs.”
