The Cargill subsidiary will produce four types of hot dogs to be sold at Minnesota Twins games; meanwhile, Dollar-a-Dog days will continue but move to Mondays.
The Minnesota Twins said Monday that Schweigert—a brand owned by Wayzata-based Cargill, Inc.—will produce four types of hot dogs to be sold at Target Field.
The news comes about two weeks after an announcement that longtime supplier Hormel Foods Corporation, based in Austin, would not continue to provide hot dogs at Minnesota Twins games following the team’s move to Target Field.
Cargill will produce the Schweigert-branded hot dogs at its manufacturing facility in Albert Lea. The four types of hot dogs that will be sold at Twins games during the 2010 season are:
• Original Twins Dog: A traditional pork and beef hot dog made from the same recipe as those that were served at the team’s first ballpark, Metropolitan Stadium.
• Twins Big Dog: A quarter-pounder that will replace the hot dog formerly known as the Dome Dog and be served at portable grills and select concession stands throughout the stadium.
• Dugout Dog: A pork-and-beef hot dog that will be sold in the stands by vendors during all home games. These hot dogs will be steamed in vending boxes and then placed in a bun when ordered, instead of being pre-wrapped.
• Dinger Dog: An extra-long pork and beef hot dog that will be available at select Hennepin Grille locations.
“We’ve made it a priority to incorporate local restaurants and food concepts at Target Field, and we’re pleased to add Schweigert meats to our hometown lineup,” Dave St. Peter, president of the Minnesota Twins, said in a statement.
Prices for the hot dogs and other food items that will be sold at Target Field have not yet been announced.
The Twins said that Dollar-a-Dog days will continue but will move from Wednesdays to Mondays, except opening day. A total of 20,000 Original Twins Dogs will be sold for $1 at each Monday home game, and each person will be able to purchase no more than two dollar dogs at each game. The Twins are scheduled to play six home games on Mondays during the 2010 season.
The Twins’ first regular-season home game will be against the Boston Red Sox on April 12.
