What’s Happening
• A new gift card from Best Buy Company, Inc., is making it easy for shoppers to chip in to fund someone’s media-centric wish list.
• Friends and family can make online contributions of $5 or more, and the money will be collected in the recipient’s Best Buy Pitch In Card fund. When enough financial backing is accrued, he’ll be able to purchase products that are too expensive for any one gifter to get.
• The card doesn’t expire and can be reloaded by friends and family when the next holiday, birthday, or event comes up.
What This Means to Business
• Digital cameras, vacations, appliances: wish lists are getting expensive. It’s too much for one giver to handle, but a whole group might be able to round up enough cash to finance the present project.
• Gift givers want to spend their money wisely. That means taking a practical approach and getting the recipient exactly what he or she wants so that the gift is useful and valuable.
